We had a wonderful LIVE show at Music at Street Market in Sydney recently. As usual I was surrounded by incredible musicians.
As I ponder how I have had the privilege to work with so many talented people over the years, I am humbled.
When I was at University studying music, I was a first-year vocalist, and I really looked up to the second and third-year singers. I recall hearing a third-year piano player performing, and I thought he was so amazing. I imagined it would be great to perform with him, so I asked him if we could.
Some of my friends in my degree said, “You can’t ask him! He is in third year (oh so experienced!), and you are in first year.” (oh so brand new!)
Well, I asked him, and he said yes. And he is still one of my favourite musicians to this day for that reason.
That was almost twenty-five years ago, and the calibre around me has never changed. Has it been a positive belief of mine outworking, or was it grace? Or both?!
Some things occur by grace when we receive above and beyond what we ask or expect.
Some things occur because they are a result of our beliefs, either good or bad, and some things occur due to a direct attack from negative forces.
You can say positive affirmations all day long, however, if a tsunami is hitting your hometown, that will not save you. You are under attack.
There are also stories of women with terribly low self-esteem and a damaged belief system, who would usually end up with a violent abusive man, and they instead somehow end up with their very own Prince Charming who treats her like a Queen. That is grace.
Regardless of what has gone before,
YOU can create a new work of art in YOUR story, from today.
So there are definitely a few things that are not within our control, as the spiritual realm is BIG, yet when it comes to our expansive OR our limiting beliefs, we have substantial power and in some cases, complete power over them.
I knew a lady who as a little girl, was dismissed and ignored by her Dad. Often. She quickly formed the subconscious belief “My Dad does not listen to me.” She had solid evidence to back it up too. Over time the belief developed to, “Men do not listen to me.” As she grew, the belief was cemented and globalised to “NO ONE listens to me.”
As an adult, she could say to a group of people, “Let’s go to the cafe down the road!” and no one would respond or even acknowledge it. It was like she had not opened her mouth at all. Then straight away, her husband standing right next to her would say to the group, “Let’s go to the cafe down the road!” and the whole group would say. “Great idea! Yes! Let’s go!”
She finally was fed up with this lifetime of frustration, so she prayed for an answer as to what on earth was going on.
It all became crystal clear.
Her original belief was formed by something that DID happen, and she ran with it. Soon, due to the sheer power of her thoughts and words, her life and circumstances around her were falling into line with her deep limiting beliefs and reflecting that STRAIGHT BACK TO HER.
The limiting beliefs we have can take deep root and cause untold havoc.
I used the example earlier of having the opportunity to play with incredible musicians as that is an example of a result of a healthy belief…plus some grace I reckon!
I will share at some stage about some unhealthy ones I have had which have nearly killed me, literally.
You also have a mixture of great, powerful, uplifting beliefs, and you can see the results in your life, and you have some limiting beliefs that are really getting in the way and blocking you.
I was extremely proud of the singers James, Imelda, and Billie, who also featured at the show the other night.
They were WONDERFUL!
The truth is that EVERY singer on the planet who loves to sing and loves music, has ALSO at one time or another had to dig deep to find new confidence and the BELIEF that they can do it!
To get up onto the stage and deliver takes belief. When I saw standing ovations and the audience loving what they were hearing, I felt like it was that brilliant mix of grace (“How does this cool stuff even happen?!) and healthy solid beliefs, that ensure it’ll go well all round.
As for the limiting beliefs you have, do not take those lightly. They can truly be the culprits behind loneliness, poverty, lack, failure, and so much more.
Creating more and more healthy beliefs, jettisoning the unhealthy ones, and intentionally thinking on and speaking about what is right and true is one of the best trajectories you could ever choose for your life. You can rewrite your story as you advance. Regardless of what has gone before, you can create a new work of art in YOUR story, from today.
This is ongoing inner work and as my dear friend Melanie Tonia Evans says, “Keep smiling, keep thriving because there’s nothing else to do.” Surely there is nothing more important than aligning with your true and highest self rather than those destructive limiting beliefs, especially those crackers passed down your generational line.
If you would like to know exactly how to do this process, that is just some of what we do in the You Have A Voice Academy.
And we will also cover some of this very important ground in Bali for the You Have A Voice Summit in January 2020.
You will also be swimming, having a massage, enjoying amazing food, learning some high-level voice technique training, exploring the colourful markets of Ubud, and so much more!
You are so welcome to join me, and please know that there is a GREAT discount if you do both the Academy and Bali!
